Navy officials in Washington, however, denied that any U.S. ships were operating in the area cited by the North Koreans, which was off the western coast of the c o u n t r y 50 miles . south of Pyongyang. The scene was the same general area where the North Koreans captured a South Korean Navy craft Friday with 20 crewmen aboard. Observers speculated that the South Korean navy vessel, the first to be captured by the communists since the end of the Korean War, was the same ship alleged to be the American spy ship sunk by the communists. ISRAELI WARPLANES hit Arab positions along the Suez Canal for 11 hours yesterday, marking the third anniversary of the 6 day war of 1967. Israeli warplanes have struck Egyptian targets on the canal for over 60 hours in the past six days in an effort to reduce Israeli casualties and prevent strengthening of Arab positions on the canal's west bank. Arab resistance groups greeted the anniversary with a moderately successful call for a general strike in Israeli occupied lands and with sporadic ground attacks that killed one Israeli officer and wounded nine others. TEN ANTI-WAR DEMONSTRATORS were convicted in Chicago yesterday of destroying Selective Service System records in a raid on a south side draft board office in May 1969. Claiming that the defendants were a "menace to the community," Judge Edwin A. Robson revoked all bonds. Tuesday was set for the sentencing, with maximum penalty for each of the defendants totaling 23 years in prison and $32,000 in fines on four separate counts of the indictments. Four of the accused had based their defense on the grounds that their political views were different enough from those of the rest of American society to constitute "cultural insanity."
