VOTING LEGISLATION which would lower the voting age
nationwide to 18 was cleared yesterday for House action under
a tight rule that will require the House to vote it up or down
with no changes.
The tight rule was a victory for supporters of the measure who
feared an effort to separate the 18-year-old vote from the voting
rights extension would send the bill back to the Senate where it
could face a filibuster and possible defeat.

PRIME MINISTER GOLDA MEIR called upon the Western
world yesterday to warn the Soviet Union to keep out of the
Middle East conflict.
The Israeli prime minister said President Gamal Abdel Nasser
has "practically sold out" Egypt's sovereignty to the Russians and
given them an open door for further penetration into the Middle
East.
In an interview with the Asciated Press, Mrs. Meir remarked
that the West has excused as densive help for Egypt the setting
up of Soviet Sam 3 missile installations with Russian crews and
Russian pilots flying operational missions over Egypt.
