Protesters acquitted Plamondon

of demonstrations.
The prosecution pictured the
protesters as "a noisy crowd"
chanting obscene slogans and
distracting congressional em-
ployes from their routine dut-
ies inside the Capitol.
The defense contended that

speeches by congressmen and
to "petition for redress of griev-
ances."
The prosecution's chief wit-
ness was Capiol Police Chief
James Powell. who said he
heard no speeches and describ-
ed the demonstrators as "in a
near frenzy."

Sgt. Richard Robinson of the
Kent County Sheriff's Depart-
msent vice squad said yesterday
he had been working on the
case since July 26.
According to Robinson, Pla-
mondon had on at least two oc-
casions, July 24 and July 31,
attempted to smuggle drugs to
her husband.
Robinson would not say whe-
ther the smuggling attempt had
succeeded.
When asked how it was
know a crime was committed if
it wasn't successful, Robinson
would only say that his evidence
"involves other people".
While no other arrests have
been made in connection with
the alleged smuggling, Robinson
said the sheriff's department
was "still investigating" t h e
case.
Another aspect of the case is
that arresting officers claimed
to have found small quanitities
of marijuana in Plamondon's
possession when she was arrest-
ed. According to Kent County
Sheriff's Department officers,
Plamondon has not been charg-
ed with this additional offense
at this time.
