Meanwhile, it was announced President Nixon sent a message to King Hassan congratulating him for having escaped shen Army rebels attacked his .um- mer palace on Saturday. Nixon's message was dispatch- ed on Sunday. Officials said it expressed the relief of the ad- ministration that the monarch's life was saved and order had been restored. There were no American casualties. After Saturday's unsuccessful coup, Mohammed Oufkir, who has been regarded as the strong- man of the regime ever since 1965, was invested with all nil- itary and civil powers in Mo- rocco by Hassan II. Oufkir is generally cr 'dted with masterminding the kidnap- ping and assassination of Mo- roccan leftist leader El Msehdi Ben Barka six years ago. Oufkir supervised the sum- mary court martial which sen- tenced the three generals to execution. A communique from the gov- ernment on the executions was expected. The executions were carried out in secret, informants said. "This is not Iraq," one high Moroccan official added in ref- erence to executions carried out in public squares in Iraq's capi- tal, Baghdad. It was tot certain whether all the dozen or so senior officers involved in the short lived at- tempt to set up a Moroccan revolutionary republic were exe- cuted. The executions are continuing although it was not clear whether all six leading conspirators re- ported under arrest have been shot. King Hassan told a news con- ference Sunday that the officeis who led Saturday's attempted coup would all be dead by s rn- down last night. He named eight principal plotters including four generals and three colonels. Join The Daily, A Gen.
