On weeknights there are usually no cover charges and on weekends they are very slight. There is never any minimum. However if you are heading for Copenhagen, save these things till you reach the Danish mecca of sex. If you dig classical music and there is a concert playing in the famous Concertgebow hall, don't miss it. The Symphony is excel- lent I am told, and the hall's acoustics are the best in the world. (Unfortunately the hall was empty during my stay.1 In spite of all these assets, the best thing about Amsterdam are the people. They are friendly and tolerant. They are also multi- lingual (Dutch, English, French, and German) and are always to help you find your way around the city or just strike up a con- versation. Please remember as you travel that a city is not just museums and nightlife but most importantly the people. Talk to them, meet them, and see what they think. Look into the youth culture of other lands. You will learn far more this way than by hitting every museum in town. Well as you can probably tell I am enchanted with Amsterdam. I love the people, and the city has 'a perfect blend of culture and nightlife for my particular tastes. I was there six days and it wasn't enough. See what you think. P.S. Amsterdam is the diamond cutting center of the world. Catch a diamond cutting exhibition while you are there. They are fascinating and educational.' If you have the cash, diamonds are the cheapest you can get them, so get them if you want them and ca nafford them. I neither want them, nor can afford them, I put all my money into Dutch chocolate and ice-cream. PP.S. The Losey film. The Go Between, won at Cannes. I will see it if it is playing in Bri- tain.
