The move was part of a general action by some of the city's 400,- 000 municipal workers including highway and water supply workers who are demanding action from the state legislature on a proposed pension plan. Workers further snarled traffic by stalling cars in the roads, and city officials expressed fear that the city's water supply was threat- ened by the strike. ** * FIGHTING NEAR THE DMZ raged again yesterday, with American B-52 bombers making strikes in an attempt to ease the recent threat by the North Vietnamese in the area. Further south, Da Nang, South Vietnam's second largest city, was hit early yesterday morning with a heavy Viet Cong rocket at- tack. South Vietnamese officials reported three civilians dead and one wounded in the third attack on the city in nine days. FORMER 'U' PROFESSOR and early anti-war activist Arnold Kaufman was among 50 passengers killed yesterday in a collision of a DC-9 and a Marine Corps jet in California. THE NATIONAL JOURNALISM SOCIETY, Sigma Delta Chi, yesterday announced it would file suit in U.S. district court chal- lenging a police search of files in the offices of the Stanford Daily. The society's Freedom of Information Committee called the April 12 search "clearly a violation of propriety", claiming it violated the first, fourth and fourteenth amendments of the constitution. The charges stem from an incident in which Palo Alto and Santa Clara county police used a search warrant to examine files of the stu- dent-run newspaper. TREASURY SECRETARY John Connally said yesterday if con- gressional aid for the ailing Lockheed Corp. doesn't come within 40 days, thousands of jobs may be lost and economic recovery en- A dangered.
