Koster, 51, and Young, 50, can choose either to retire or re- main in the Army. For Koster, demotion means a cut in both his active duty pay and retire- ment benefits. Rep. Samuel Stratton (D- N.Y.), a member of the House Arm e d Services Committee which conducted its own inves- tigation of My Lai, s a i d the punishment "amounts to little more than a slap on the wrist." "At a time when one junior officer Lt. William Calley Jr. is under a court-martial sen- tence of life imprisonment for his role in My Lai, the question of whether the top officers did or did not deliberately try to hide the facts of My Lai can o n 1 y be properly answered in formal court martial," Stratton said. The Army earlier had dismiss- ed criminal charges accusing the two generals of covering up the slaughter of Vietnamese ci- vilians at My Lai by Calley's company. But Resor, in announcing his action in a nine page statement, said "an officer's performance of duty not only must be lawful but also must conform to the established standards of his pro- fession." Ogden Nash dies at 68 BALTIMORE (tP) - Ogden Nash, whose broken-line limer- icks poked f u n at everything from morality to vegetables, died yesterday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was 68. Nash had been receiving kid- ney treatment at the hospital following abdominal surgery in March. 'For four decades, ever since his unusual rhyme scheme caught the eye of a New Yorker editor, Nash stuck pins in the pompous, chided the overly ser- ious and amused everyone. Nash's satire, was a little sharp around the edges, bu t never bitter. Its wisdom came from a wealth of insight rather than one philosophy. He found cheerful and flip- pant fault with such items as women's hats and other people's children. B u t the Nash irony had a mixture of tenderness and love of life that quickly won him friends.
