"In subsequent months, I as- sisted Norris when he was with- out employment or shelter. He didn't even have any shoes. I helped him get $50 for clothes from a local agency and I even went down to J.C. Penny's with him to make sure he bought shoes with the money. "I also put him up at my house on several nights, and I counseled him on how to ob- tain vocational services. The only monies I gave Norris were minor loans for meals - in total less than $10 dollars. "During my contacts with Norris he asked me if I knew of an attorney who could aid him in the case - breaking and entering - for which he had originally charged. I put him in touch with a local attorney, Michael Stillwagon. "Stillwagon and Norris sub- sequently decided to file the suit against Harvey. I was at no time involved in this decision. Harvey's charge that I 'put up' Norris to the suit is simply not true. "I do not know what kind of treatment Norris has received since re-entering the jail, but there is evidence that he has been in a highly unbalanced state. County officials admitted today (yesterday) that he tried to commit suicide during the past weekend. "I think it's unfortunate Norris has decided to drop the suit, but I'm sure he has been under enormous pressure to do so in recent weeks." (Continued from Page t Leonard. Leonard's attorney Ronald Egnor called the hearing "a halfway step to doing what is right." Before the vote was taken, Egnor told the board, "We fully expect the board to rescind its transfer decision to- night." According to Egnor, the Ann Arbor schools could face re- moval from the North Central accreditation list because the board acted in a personnel transfer that was not recom- mended by the superintendent. Egnor requested that the board compile a written statement of the reasons for the Leonard transfer before the hearing, since Engor hasn't "the foggiest no- tion" of the reasons behind the board's action. Julia Moore, a teacher at For- sythe, called the board's decision "basic bullshit." "They don't have the good of the Forsythe children in mind. They're just trying to save face," she explained.
