Money honey, that's what I want: Three Dog Night, f or their performance at the Pocono Speedway in eastern Pennsyl- vania, took home $125,000 as its share of a $1,320,000 gross in what is believed to be the biggest. payday for a single performance. That even beats the quarter of a million dollars that Alice Cooper rolled in for three days of work earlier this summer. In other financial news --- an average takehome for Rod Ste- wart and the Faces was well over $75,000 per night on their recent American tour. Minus destroyed pianos, of course. Ann Arbor was worth an $80,000 gross to all concerned. Ragtime Piano Devotees: a concert held last October at the Library of the Performing Arts Center in New York devoted to the music of Scott Joplin has been recorded live ..y Nonesuch and features William Bolcum, Mary Lou Williams, and Joshua Rifkin. Write me c/o the Daily for details if you have $10 to contribute to the N.Y. Public Library System for this controlled circulation and very promising re- cord. Commander Cody fans might be interested to know that t h e Commander's Big Hit Single, "Hot Rod Lincoln," made No. 9 on the National Charts (with a Bullet), and Paramount has re- leased a second single, "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar" which is on its way up there, too. Local FM station WNRZ may be airing the radio talents of John Sinclair and/or Bob Rud- nick in what looks to be a format surgery for the better. Classics: RCA Records has in- troduced a "composers biggest hits" series on its classical bud- get label, Victrola (retail: $2.98). Artists on the first 10 albums include the Chicago Symphony with Fritz Reiner, the Boston Symphony conducted by Charles Munch, Arthur Fiedler with the Boston Pops, the RCA S y m- phony with Kiryil Kondrashin, Leopold Stokowskf conducting his orchestra, and several others. Composers represented in this series are Beethoven, Debussy, Gershwin, Grieg, Mozart Pic- cini Rachmaninoff Ravel, Sibel- ius and Tschiakovsky. I recom- mend this series especially f o r those who have very little money to allot for the classical area of their record collection and who especially enjoy the popular piec- es or passages. The price on these discs is unbeatable, the quality good to excellent and the performers are among the best conductors and orchestras around. Check it out. Next week: some reviews and a look at classical budget labels. Fritz da Cat-An' dat's the troof By MAURICE as told to MIDGET CASTIGLIANO Yessum. Dat Fritz da Cat shore is a pussy. Little Tom is cavortin' over at da Campus Theeater and he dun been in a mess of trouble. Dat puss goes to a wild party 'n da policemens dun go on aftuh im. He scapes 'n goes to a Jewish church. Den he burns down da college 'n den he runs off to da black folks, only des crows. An' den he dun led a ree-volt 'n scapes off ta Californy. Den da kitty puts a bomb on da building 'n gets his- self 'ploded. Dat's the troof ! I ain't got da slightest idee what dis is sposed to be bout but I knows dis: Da policemens are piggies. Da negroes are crows 'n dey look like em too. Da cat shore nuff gets da pussy. Dey talks dirt too.
