And he blames it on one fac- tor '- streos. Thio stress, says Dr. Richard Grayson, president of the Am- erican Academy of Air Traffic Control Medicine, grows out of the controller's fear of cauoing a collision of airplanes, The symptoms that follow anxiety, insomnia, shortness of breath and irritability, "plus their spin-off effects of marital discord and interpersonal ani- mosittes," he said. In a study of 111 air traffic controllers, Grayson found that 861 of them had symptoms of peptic ulcer serious enough that they were referred to ra- diologists for X-ray studies, Sixty-six were, found to have some sort of gastrointestinal ill- ness, including 36 with peptic ulcer. This rat of 32.4 percent wtth peptic ulcer represents the highest incidence of any group reported in the medical litera- bare, Grayson said. MCAT-DAT-GRE LSAT-ATOSB NATL. BDS.
