"a" angell hall 7 & 9 p.m. $1 -the ann arbor film cooperative- cinema Butterfly: Lackluster porno . By RICHARD GLATZER The Butterfly is an illustrated Happy Hooker with some dime store psychology and mild social commentary all packed into a slow-moving, drab seventy-odd minutes. Kirsten Koczinski (An- na Kristina) is a middle-grade, street walking whore who nar- ates various episodes of her life depicted on the screen - h e r short-lived career as a legiti- mate worker, her run-in with a group of Communists, her en- counters with an attractive cus- tomer, a jovial, rotund truck- driver, a nervous family man, a, movie producer, a transsexual. Also included in the package are Kirsten's pseudo-liberated observations on contemporary life (the "everyone is a prosti- tute" argument is repeated a number of times), her specula- tions on her past, her present, and her future, and her corny attempts at self-definition ("I SPresentSchool of Music Sunday, June 11, 8:00 p.m. Hill Auditorium An Evening of CHAMBER DANCE Dancers from Julliard Live Music Sword Dances-lec. Dem.-Premiere of Basic Needs like my freedom. I'm like a butterfly"). All this is intended to show how self-hating and very lib- erated our butterfly really is. Result: a truly schizoid crea- tion - a moralistic porno-flick. Anna Kristina, in the title role, is supposed to be a knockout. She's not. The poor girl seems either to have had a hangover the day Butterfly was shot or to have been afflicted w i t h some sort of eye disease. Her face looks tired and worn and her sole expression - a pout- ing sort of scowl - while occas- sionally appropriate to the movie's action, becomes very tir- ing very soon. As for her body, it's ok, but it is on view so often, and is used in so lackluster a- 'nanner that only the ultra-horny could get really excited. An admiring character in the movie asks, "Who'd think an attractive wo- man like that would be a com- mon you-know-what?" Most any- one, I'd imagine. As for the other flesh, there Wiretap bill (Continued from Page 1) Wiretapping would be "an in- fringement on a person's rights without accomplishing the end which it seeks," he asserts. He is joined in his opposition by the American Civil Liberties Union, the United Auto Workers Union and the Detroit chapter of the AFL-CIO. TERM PAPERS Resareed, w riten and procesols- ally typed. Erotic epi- sodes include: a screw in the back of a truck, two lesbian scenes, and fellatio perform-cd to the rhythmic music of a cas- sette player. The- problem with porno-flicks is that I find my voyeur tenden- cies stifled after perhaps fifteen minutes of simulated orgasm. Butterfly provides Some unin- tentional non-erotic diversion -- the scenes with the Communists and the truck driver, and a fight wherein people fall to the ground when a flying 'ist seems to miss them by at least six inches - yet these scenes are not enough to compensate for the film's frequent lapses into boredom. The Butterfly is the only skin flick in town, but the DWag on a sunny day can be a lot more ero- tic.
