Mickey Stanley drew a walk off Dave LaRoche, 1-3, Minne- sota's fifth pitcher, and Brown followed with his tie-breaking liner to right center that gave Fred Scherman his second vic- tory without a loss. Mickey Lolich appeared head- ed for his' ninth victory after the Tigers struck for four runs Magic Number: 117 in the second inning. The De- troit left-bander held Minnesota hitless until Cesar Tovar tripled with one out in the sixth inning. But Danny Thompson's sacri- fice fly scored Tovar, then Thompson cracked a two-run homer in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-3.
