METS ROLL Cubs slam Cardinal By The Associated Press CLEVELAND - Gaylord Perry notched his third shutout of the season and. his ninth victory with a six-hitter as the Cleve- land Indians halted their seven- game losing streak by beating the Detroit Tigers 1-0 last night. The Indians scored their run in the third inning with one of only three hits permitted by Joe Coleman, 7-4. Coleman walked Eddie Leon with one out, Perry sacrificed him to second and Tom McCraw singled Leon home. The Tigers threatened in the first, when they rapped two hits, and again in the fifth, when they got two more hits, but Perry left the runners stranded. It was Perry's ninth victory Magic Number: 118 Even though the Tigers lost last night, their magic number still was reduced. Now it's only 118, and just imagine when they win! of the season against three loss- es and the Indians' first since May 23, when Perry beat the New York Yankees, 3-0. The victory moved Cleveland within one game of the division- leading Tigers in the American League East while Baltimore re- mained in second place, a half- game behind the front-runners after losing to Boston 7-1. Orioles offed BALTIMORE - Sonny Siebert maintained his mastery over Baltimore with a seven-hitter and Rico Petrocelli and Carlton Fisk each knocked in two runs as the Boston Red Sox stopped the Orioles 7-1 last night. Scheinblum shines ST. PAUL-MINNEAPOLIS - Richie Scheinblum blasted a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth inning, lifting the Kansas City Royals over the Minne- sota Twins 5-3 yesterday. Scheinblum's tremendous blast, which carried 471 feet into the left field seats, came off re- liever Dave LaRoche, 1-2, af- ter Cookie Rojas blooped a two- out single to left. Scheinblum batted for Gail Hopkins. Eric Soderholm cracked a two- run shot off Tom Murphy for the Twins in the second after Bob Darwin was hit by a pitch. The Twins made it 3-0 in the fifth. Roland, 0-1, gave up the final walk on a 3-2 pitch to Rich Auerbach with two outs. He al- ready had walked Mike Fer- raro, Bill Voss and Ron Theo- bald. The Brewer's held an 8-7 lead in the ninth inning but the Yan- kees' Bobby Murcer hit his fourth home run of the year o send the game into extra in- nings.
