In a copyrighted story from thier Washington Bureau, Booth newspapers reported yesterday that Hart wrote the Internal Re- venue Service May 10 sying she is refusing to make any more income tax payments. Hart, heir to a Detroit manu- facturing fortune, said she fail- ed to include a check for $6,200 in estimated tax payments when she made her quarterly filing on her estimated taxes. In writing the IRS, Hart said she is "ready to accept a n y sanctions that apply." She said she put the money in a special bank account in- stead of paying it to the IRS. "I cannot contribute one more dollar toward the purchase of more bombs and bullets." s h e wrote. "As a citizen, I feel the kind of desperation that decent Ger- mans must have felt in the '30s. I can't be a party to any more of this and still feel like an honest person." Senator Hart said he and his wife are in "total agreement" on the war, but said he opposes nonpayment of taxes as a means of protest.
