Higher prices for men's cloth-
ing, used cars, restaurant meals
and housing caused most of the
living costs rise that pushed the
Consumer Price Index up to
124.3 per cent of its 1967 base
of 100.
This meant is cost $12.43 last
month for every $10 worth of
typical family spending five
years ago for food, housing,
clothing, transportation, medi-
cal care and recreation.

WASHINGTON (A) - A Black
Agenda, drawn up at the Na-
tional Black Political Convention
at Gary, Ind., tn March, was
released yesterday amid renew-
ed controversy over two of its
resolutions.
"There was sharp difference
of opinion concerning so me
items," Gary Mayor Richard
Hatcher, one of the confer-
ence's three co-chairmen, ack-
nowledged.
The agenda included resolu-
tions condemning "forced racial
integration of schools" by bus-
ing and "the Israeli government
. . for her expansionist policy
and force of the sovereign terri-
tory of another state."
"While there was not absolute
unanimity on the total contents
of this document," Hatcher said
at a news conference, "still the
general consensus underlying its

creation ... was impressive and
unifying."
Also taking exceptions w it h
the two resolutions were Rep.
Charles Diggs (D-Mich), a co-
chairman; and the Rev. Walter
Fauntroy, congressional dele-
gate from the District of Colum-
bit, chairman of the confer-
ence's platform committee.
"We feel obligated to point
out the resolutions concerning
Israel and busing are not re-
presentative of the vast majority
of black Americans," Diggs said.
"But we vigorously support the
aims of the National B I a c k
Political Convention."
The caucus, of which both
Diggs and Fauntroy are mem-
bers, has supported busing as a
necesary tool in the desegrega-
tion process.
