THE MICHIGAN DAILY Wednesday, August 14, 1974 Ryan K's 19Bosox. Nolan Ryan, a beacon of light on the dismal California Angels, etched his name into the American League record book Monday night by strik- ing out 19 Boston Red Sox in a 4-2 Angel victory. Ryan, who holds the major league season whiff record of 383, has 260 this year and most likely will become the first pitcher to strike out 300 bat- ters, three seasons in a row.
