Sources said Turkey had de- manded six autonomous regions for the Turk- ish Cypriots on the island but it was rejected by the leader of the Greek Cypriots, Glafcos Clerides. Hundreds fled the Cypriot capital as Turkey declared that its forces were "strong enough to occupythe entire island." "We only ask for our rights" Turkey's interior minis- ter, Oguzhan Asilturk, said. "We are deter- mined to get them" TEL AVIV, Israel - Israeli naval gunboats shelled a Palestinian refugee camp on Le- banon's Mediterranean coast in an hour-long raid yesterday, the Israeli military command said. The command said the gunners' hit their target - a building which served as a terror- ist naval headquarters at the Rashidieh camp near Tvre. A command spokesman said the camp was used to launch "a terrorist motorboat" Friday night which was sunk by National WASHINGTON - A federal grand jury has charged Mayor Charles Evers of Fayette, Miss., with evading more than $50,000 in fed- eral income taxes, the Justice Department announced yesterday. Evers, the black civil rights leader who returned to his home state to campaign for office after his brother Med- gar was slain, was indicted by the grand jury in U.S. District Court in Jackson on Monday. The indictment was unsealed yesterday. Evers, mayor of Fayette since 1969, was charged with three counts of evading taxes for 1968, 1969 and 1970.
