() - The University of Illinois has been notified of findings by the Na- tional Collegiate Athletic As- sociation regarding alleged ath- letic program malpractices at the school in 1969 and 1974. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Cecil Coleman said yesterday the school will not decide whether to accept a presumed penalty or to appeal to the NCAA Coun- cil "for a week or two." In July, 1973, the NCAA sent Illinois a letter of official in- quiry regarding alleged viola- tions in basketball recruiting, car loans to athletes and other athletic program irregularities. Coleman and associate direc- tor Richard Tamburo went to the NCAA's Kansas City head- quarters on July 24 to present the school's answer to the charges to the NCAA's infrac- tion committee. COLEMAN SAID yesterday in Hold future Olympilads in the buff?. PORT NATURE, France (AM - Delegates to the World Na- turist Congress heard a pro- posal yesterday that the next Olympic Games he held in the nude, as they were in the an- cient days of Greece. Nudists from 22 countries talked excitedly of putting the discus thrower back in his old uiform and having the marathon runaer streak into the stadium with his flaming torch to inaugurate I h e games. Contact sports like soccer and fencing would still call for uniforms, conceded Werner Dtorfl, the Australian delegate, who journeyed the farthest to attend the 14th International Nudist Convention. So would skiing and bobsledding, but there is certainly no reason why thse track, swimming and gym- nast events could not be held in the nude, which is the way the games began long ago, Dorfi said. Some delegates envisioned placards hung around each ath- lete's neck with the flag and name of his country to enable spectators to distinguish at a glance the competitors. Sports of the Daily a statement: "Late Monday I received a letter from the NCAA informing us of the findings in their investigation of the Uni- versity of Illinois Athletic Asso- ciation. 'I have conferred with Chan- cellor Jack Peltason and there will be no decision reached by the University for at least a week and maybe two weeks. "There will be no further comment from the University on this matter until that time." It was reported that if the NCAA penalty is more than one year of probation for the bas- ketball team, an appeal will be filed. THREE BASKETBALL play- ers reportedly involved in the violations long ago dropped out of school and thedbasketball coach and the athletic director at the time, Harv Schmidt and Gene Vance, also are gone. This marks the second NCAA probe of Illinois. The so-called Illini slush fund scandal of 19 wiped out five athletes and forced resignation of football coach Pete Elliott and basket- ball coach Harry Conibes. The NCAA also put Illinois on a two-year probation. Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby!
