Wednesday, July 31, 1974 THE MICHIGAN D /Sports of The Daily By The Associated Press Packers trade Hunter GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers have traded Scott Hunter, their starting quarterback most of the past three seasons, to Buffalo in a deal that brought a running back and defensive tackle from the Bills to Green Bay. The Packers acquired Pete Van Valkenburg, a 6-foot-2, 203- pound running back starting his second National Football League season, and Steve Okoniewski, a 6-foot-4, 252-pound defensive tackle and two year NFL veteran. None of the players involved had reported to training camp because of the NFL players strike. Cowboys jump to WFL DALLAS - Three members of the National Football League Dallas Cowboys have signed contracts with the World Football League in separate announcements made by two WFL franchises, yesterday. The Memphis Southmen announced that linebacker D. D. Lewis had signed a three year contract beginning next season for an unspecified amount that included a bonus for switching leagues. A short time later, the Birmingham Americans revealed that tackles Rayfield Wright and Jethro Pugh had both inked pacts with its organization. Wright will join the Americans in 1977, while Pugh will become available in 1976. Baseball format change? CLEVELAND - Major league baseball club owners are con- sidering a proposal that would revise and enlarge the system of league championship playoffs, according to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The proposal would add the second place team in each of the four divisions so that eight clubs, instead of the present four, would be included in the postseason play. The proposal will be discussed and voted on when league owners and general managers gather for their annual summer meetings in New York on Aug. 7 and 8, the newspaper said. Blazers deflate prices ORLANDO, Fla. - The Florida Blazers of the World Foot- ball League have slashed the prices of 11,000 temporary end zone seats in the Tangerine Bowl to $5 from $7.75 in an effort to boost sagging attendance. A total of 34,354 fans have watched the Blazers' two home games, ranking them 10th in the 12-team league in attendance.
