AP Photo Tgers WIN 10upset Coleman is victor on Northrup's clutch hit By JOHN KAHLER special To The Daily DETROIT -Perhaps the De- troit Tigers should plan more special nights. The last time they won was on Navy Night, a week ago. Last night was Lutheran Night, and the Ben- gals rewarded the Sons and Daughters of the Reformation present in the stands by beat- ing the Boston Red Sox, 1-0 in 11 innings. JIM NORTHRUP picked up the lone RBI of the night, as his drive into the right field corner scored Gary Sutherland from second to break up an epic pitching duel between the Bo- Sox's Reggie Cleveland and Joe Coleman of the Tigers. If Coleman has ever pitched a better game than the one he threw last night, no one has seen it. But Reggie Cleveland was, if anything, better. He had a no-hitter going for six and two-thirds innings, until a dou- ble by Jim Nettles broke it up. The Tigers did not even come close to getting another hit dur- ing regulation. COLEMAN, on the other hand, nearly lost the game in the, seventh. Walks to Rico Petro- celli and Danny Cater put run- ners on first and second, and Rick Burleson lashed a single to short left. Unfortunately for Cleveland, Nettles' throw cut down Petrocelli at the plate to end the inning. This set the stage for the eleventh, when Petrocelli boot- ed a grounder by Sutherland to start off the inning. Al Kaline sacrificed him to second, and Northrup delivered to give De- troit a one-game winning streak. A. L. East W L Prt.
