Friday, May 10, 1974 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Page Fi fteen Dixon Farmer resigns as Wolverine track coach; Canham announces 1974-75 basketball schedule ,F Dixon F a r m e r, Michigan's track coach since 1971, resigned yesterday, citing "jab offers in business and sports-related ac- tivities" as motives for his not unexpected departure. Unlike wrestling mentor Rick Bay, who decided to change ca- reers last month, Farmer did not rule out the possibility of returning to the coaching pro- fession at some future date. Farmer, only the third Mich- igan track coach in the past 25 years, will probably be best re- membered for having re-intro- duced cross country to the Uni- versity's sports scene. The new- ly-formed harriers have already established a successful tradi- tion, placing second in the Big Ten in 1972 and following that up with a third in 1973. Farmer's thinclads also reach- ed their peak last year, placing second in both the Big Ten in- door and outdoor seasons. Un- fortunately, they aren't coming close to that this year, and the team's prospects are less than bright. Michigan Athletic Director DoC an h am yesterday an- nounced the 1974-75 basketball schedule for the defending Big Ten co-champions. With or without Campy Rus- sell, the key to the Wolverines' season will probably come at the beginning of February, when the Big Blue will confront Pur- WE'RE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE A SECOND ANN ARBOR LOCATION 201 E.
