Thursday, June 13, 1974 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Page Eleven Thursday, June 13, 1974 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Page Eleven Two ADDED, TWO STAFFED Major League Leaders NHL From Wire Service Reports Major League hockey, a sport whose franchises have been multiplying like rabbits, added some snore cities in action to- day at the NHL summer meet- ings in Montreal. New to the National hockey league are the cities of Denver and Seattle, both of which have been granted franchises effec- tive for the 1976-77 season. While these two were admitted to the club, the Konsas City Scouts and the Washington Capitals, who begin operation this fall, filled their rosters with culls from the established clubs. The announcement of the ad- dition of the two new clubs was made by Clarence Campbell, NHLt president, just before he began conducting the expan- sion draft. The addition of the two teams will bring the NHIL to a four- division, 20team league in 1976. it also will put an end to the Western Hockey League as an entity the same year, with sev- eral of the clubs possibly mov- isg to the Central' Hockey league. Meanwhile, in another room, goalies went rapidly as the Scouts and Capitals filled their. rosters. Michel Plasse of the ;Montreal Canadiens and Pete Mcl~uffe of the New York Rang- ers went to Kansas City, while Washington tabbed Toronto's Ron Low, and Michel Belhu- nesr of the Philadelphia Fly- ers. Each of the existing 16 NHIL teams was allowed to protect 15 skaters and two goalies from tbe draft by the Scouts and ('apitals. The draft was a claim - and - fill affair in which the clubs that lot players were allowed to add other exposed players to their protected list. After the four goalies were selected, the new teams moved into the draft of skaters.
