NEW WORLD SUMMER CINEMA Presents Robbie Moore at work-he gets a back-up Farrell lands eight By ROGER ROSSITER Michigan hockey coach Dan Farrell announced this week the signing of eight freshman can- didates for the 1974-75 Wolverine squad. The list includes two players from the 1974 Minnesota state champion, Edina East, coached by former Wolverine All-American goaltender Willard Ikola, and the leading scorer from the Michigan Junior "B" League. Farrell's p r i m a r y concern while recruiting this year has been to beef up Michigan's of- fense and find a solid backup netminder, two ambitious goals which he feels "he has fulfilled. Size was also foremost in Far- rell's mind and he found some hefties led by righswinger-de- fensemnan J o h n McCahill, 6-2, 195, from Sarnia, Ontario. Mc- Cahill playedhdefense this past season for the Sarnia Junior "B" entry, but Farrell intends to give him a shot at rightwing next fall. ANOTHER HEFTY forward, Ben Kawa, 6-0, 180, from To- ronto will get a shot at a left- wing slot. Although Kawa is presently recovering f r o m a broken jaw suffered while skat- ing for Wexford of the Toronto Junior League, Farrell seems confident that the big Canadian will be raring to go by the time training camp opens. Bill Thayer, 5-10, 165, and Barry Johnson, 6-1, 175, teamed in on the same line for Ikola's Minnesota State champs. Edina East compiled a perfect 29-0 record this past season with Tvlor and Johnson playing a large role.
