School board candidates argue issues (continued from Page3) who is 14 years old, will not appear on the ballot because he is not a registered voter and can't hold office under state law. All candidates except conser- vative George Kolasa and HRP candidates Mann and Astrid Beck also indicated support for the 1.3 school millage increase on the ballot. The funds are ear- marked for hiring a full-time attendance counselor and a cur- riculum coordinator as well as providing for maintenance costs. Republican-backed candidates Wendy Barhydt, Stanley Bielby and 'Peter Wright all stressed the need to hire a coordinator to help standardize academic requirements between elemen- tary and secondary schools. MODERATE candidates E. Stevens Binder, William Cash and Manfred Schmidt also indi- cated their support for mare central controls on curriculum.
