Page Two THE SUMMwER DAfI.Y Friday, August 17, 1973 Page Twa THE SUMMER DAILY Friday, August 17, 1973 20 Ozele and Barrlet-Come# CBS to show play "Sticks and Bones" CBS will show the highly con- troversial play "Sticks and Bones" at 9:00 p.m. this evening. Bones" at 9:00 p.m. this eve- ning. Written by David Rabe and produced by Joseph Papp, the play is the story of a POW who returns home from Vietnam, blind and disillusioned. The reaction of his all-Ameri- can family-to his problems and to the war in general amounts to a scathing condemnation of American society. Originally scheduled for show- ing in March, the program was cancelled by CBS executives for fear its juxtaposition with the return of the POWs would make it extremely offensive to many Americans. Finale of park poets Saturday The final session of the sum- mer "Poetry in the Park" series will take place this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in West Park. The ser- ies, which has been held every Saturday since June, has brought together a number of local and nationally - known poets for readings and dramatic presenta- tions. According to organizer Sam Modica, t h i s week's session should be the finest yet. Sched- uled to read poetry are Diana Re- vere (A Chicago poet), A. J. Lindenberg, (author of "Frag- ments" and instructoreat School- craft Community College in Li- vonia), Jim Allen (English in- structor from the- University and Hopwood winner) as well as John Bollweg, Sam Modica and Lar- ry Joseph, all local poets. In addition to the poets a num- ber of songwriters, musicians and mimes will be on hand to provide entertainment. A number of CBS affiliates at the time had indicated they would refuse to run the play if it were released. Papp blasted the network for the cancellation and a number of critics joined him in condemn- ing what they considered an act of censorship on the part of CBS. One critic who reviewed the play before its scheduled March showing said, "I cannot recall anything on commercial televi- sion of an intensity comparable to this production." The cast features Anne Jack- son, Cliff De Young, Tom Al- dredge and Asa Gim. t.v. tonight 6:00 2 4 7 11 13 News 9 Courtship of Eddie's Father 20 Land of the Giants 24 ABC News-Smith/Reasoner 50 Flintstones 56 Erica-Crafts 6:15 56 Theonie 6:30 2 11 CBS News-Roger Mudd 4 13 NBC News-John Chancellor 7 ABC News-Smith/Reasoner 9 1 Dream of Jeannie-Comedy 24 Dick Van tyke 50 Gilligan's Island 56 Free Stage-Freddie King 7:00 2 Truth or Consequences 4 News 7 To Tell theT ruth 9 Beverly Hillbillies 11 To Tell the Truth 13 What's My Line? 20 Nanny and the Professor 24 Bowling for Dollars 50 I Love Lucy 7:30 2 What's My Line? 4 Hollywood Squares 7 Wait Till Your Father Gets 9 Lassie 11 You Asked For It 13 Truth or Consequences 20 Good News 24 Wait Till Your Father Gets 50 Hogan's Heroes-Comedy 56 World Press 8:00 2 11 60 Minutes 4 13 Sanford and Son 7 24 Brady Bunch 9 Pig and Whistle 21 Burke's Law-Crime Drama BW 30 56 Washington Week in Review 50 Dragnet 8:30 4 13 Little People-Comedy 7 24 Odd Couple 9 Judy and Jim Show-Music 30 Under the Dome s0 Merv Griffin 56 Black Perspective on the News 9:00 2 11 Sticks and Bones-Drama 4 13 Movie-Western 7 24 Room 222 9 News-Don Daly 20 Ozzie and Harriet-Comne 56 Evening at Pops 9:30 7 24 Corner Bar 9 Sports Scene 20 Seven Hundred Club 10:00 7 24 Love, American Style 9 Country Roads 50 Perry Mason BW 5i An American Family 11:00 2 4 7 11 13 24 News 9 CBC News-Lloyd Robertson 50 One Step Beyond-Drama BW 11:30 2 Movie-Comedy BW "Sail a Crooked Ship" (1841) 4 13 Johnny CarsaR 7 24 In Concert-MousC 9 News 11 Movie-Thriller -Something Evil" (1172) 20 Camp Meeting Hour-Religiol 50 Movie-Drama BW 12:00 9 Movie--Drama BW "To Each His Own."
