This spring Glamour Magazine took a cross-country poll of five hundred girls in random colleges, large and small, rural and ur- ban, to find out just how many items they had of everything from jeans to long evening dress- es. What we learned they owned is likely to come as a surprise to anyone who thinks blue jeans have some kind of monopoly on campus. IN CLASSES: One student tal- lies it up precisely when she says, "Anything goes - from jeans to long skirts" Jeans, hy far, lead as heing the most popu- lar, with_ all types of tops - tailored shirts, knit tops, sweat- ers layered over shirts, turtle- necks, hody suits, smocks, T- shirts, shrink tops, work shirts. Other toppings are hlazers, hat- tie and various shaped jackets. But right next to jeans are skirts, dresses ("sporty'), pant suits, "nice pants" (wool and knittj, "haggies" and cords. On feet: clogs, loafers and hoots head the list followed hy platform soles, heeled shoes of all kinds (high, chunky), tennis shoes, sandals, saddle shoes, crepe soles --- all of them chief- ly in leather and suede. Brand names dropped: "Loafers," "Waffle Stompers," "Charlie ttrowns," "Weejuns," "Buster Browns," and "Fred Braums.' Apparently jewelry -is some- times as much in evidence in class as on dates - watches, rings, hracelets, earrings, neck- laces. Also scarves, handhags, totes. ON INFORMAL, DATES: M\ost girls say that what they wear to classes they wear on informal dates, too, with jeans and the same tops mentioned hefore lead- ing again, followed hy all the other in-class items. The only additions are an occasional dress short dress, a long hut not dressy dress, velveteen pants with a hlazer. The informal dat- inog situation has hecome a more relaxed extension of co-ed inte- gation wehere men and women live side-hy-side, easily, with- out a lot of role interference he- tween them. ON FORMAL DATES: For proms and hig or very special parties, the long dress or "form- at" 10 most popular; halter-neck- ed and hackless are the shapes singled out, while fahrics are crepe, velvet or chiffon. Second in line are long skirts with dress- ed shirts or blouses. Many girls mention that they occasionally wear short "dressy" or "Sun- day" dresses, midi dresses, midi palazzo pant outfits or velveteen pants with blazers or matching jackets. tN BED: Long nightgosvns are way ahead of anything else, and in second place, pajamas. What followa is a mixed hag, includ- ing men's old shirts (father's or hoyfriend's), hahy doll p.j.'s, T- shirts (long and short), short nightgowns, pajama tops, under- pants, and "sou naturel." Screen Gems reports that 116 progtam pilots were developed during the past year hy various studios as possible network series for the 1973-74 season, and that only 18 made the grade. Screen Gems says it scored five out of t0, in addition to which its "The Partridge Family" and "Temperatures Rising" will he hack for their fourth and second seasons, respectively.
