Announcement that the 23-year-old right winger will play next season in the WHA came one week after Nordiques General Man- ager Jacques Plante was qu'oted as saying Quebec would not pursue the Houle issue any farther. However, at a news confer- ence called to announce the signing, Plante said what he had actually said was that the Nordiques had made their final offer to the Rouyn, Que., native. Society page ATLANTA - Atlanta Brave's star Henry Aaron plans to marry a local television personality probably in November, ac- cording to published reports. The Atlanta Constitution said in yesterday's editions that Aaron is engaged to Mrs. Billye Williams, a widow and a featured interviewer on WSB-TV. Aaron has been divorced from his first wife for more than a year. The nightcap was halted by rain with the Yankees at bat an the sixth innin. Wood, who faced only six bat- ters in the first game, was starting both ends of a double- header for the first time this year. However, on May 28 he went five- innings in completing a suspended game against Cleve- land and then hurled a four-hit shutout in the regular game. AARON BELTS 699 Giants skin Cubbies By The Associated Press CHICAGO - Bobby Bonds doubled twice and scored each time on singles by Garry Maddox, helping Juan Marichal and the San Francisco Giants to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs yes- terday. Bonds opened the game with a double, trigger- ing a three-run first inning that saw Maddox and Gary Matthews both drive in runs and another score on an error. Bonds doubled with one out in the fifth and again scored on a single by Maddox off Cub starter Rick Reuschel, 10-7. Marichal, after working out of a first-inning jam in which Chicago scored one run, held the Cubs scoreless until Billy Williams hit a two-run homer, his 12th of the baseball season, in the eighth inn- ing. The victory was Marichal's eighth in 13 deci- sions this year and the 235th of his major league career, tops among active pitchers and one more than Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals. The triumph also boosted his lifetime record against the Cubs to 23-8. Hank: 700-1 ATLANTA - Willie Montanez' two-run pop fly single highlighted a three-run second inning as the Philadelphia Phillies trimmed the Atlanta Braves 6-4 despite Hank Aaron's 699th lifetime home run. Aaron's 26th homer of the baseball season was a three-run blast into the left field seats off Wayne Twitchell in the seventh inning.
