In winning their third game in a row, the Yanks jumped on sur- prise starter Gene Garber, 8-6, with one out in the first inning. Matty Alou and Roy White sin- gled and Murcer crashed his 16th home run of the baseball season far beyond the 344-foot sign in right field. Garber -was a last-minute re- placement for Paul Splittorff, the Royals' 12-game ,w in ner, who strained his back while chasing a ball in the outfield before Thursday night's game. He was sent back to Kansas City for treatment. Murcer connected again lead- ing off the sixth inning and again with one out in the eighth.
