Page Two THE SUMMER DAILY Wednesday, June 20, 1973 Outdoor concerts ...I Mall. Manch Outdoor concerts sure are in full swing now in Michigan . . . Locally, the season opened with EMU's "An Evening with Savoy Brown," a high-energy boogie-down jamboree at East- ern's stadium. Hopefully, our neighboring University will be do- ing this again this summer. A little closer to home, t h e Ann Arbor Community Parks Program free concerts happen every Sunday from 2-6 on Otis Span' Memorial Field (next to Huron High). Featured artists this Sunday are the Mojo Boogie Band, Deliverance, Frut, a n d the Tate Blues Band. Be sure to make it on down there for some open-air boogying. If you're into traveling a few miles, Pine Knob Music Theatre (1-75 and Cashabaw road) is of- fering some top-notch entertain- ment this summer. Set on the bar notes By GLORIA JANE SMITH Blues from Brooklyn? Two and a half years ago, the Brooklyn Blues Busters thought it was a fine idea. Actually, only two current members hail from the New York city. But if the n a m e "Brooklyn" in their title doesn't hold absolutely true, "B 1 u e s Busters" certanly does w i t h Howard Levine (guitar, vocal), John Nuzzo (harp, vocal), John- ny Ace (bass, vocal), Gary Churchill (sax) and Eric Nymies (drums) laying down some sounds that shouldn't be missed. Catch them tonight at Mr. Flood's Party. Also this evening: OKRA (jazz) play at the Blind Pig; RFD BOYS play at the Pretzel Bell; Dave Banyase plays at Bimbo's. Acoustics are pretty good, and even from unreserved seats on the sloping lawn t h e stage is easily seen. This Sunday, Pine Knob fea- tures Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge in concert. Texas-born son of an Air Force pilot, Kris- tofferson is not only a successful Nashville-based folk-rock music- ian but also an upcoming name in the world of film. (He cur- rently stars with Bob Dylan in "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid"). The following Sunday (July 1), Pine Knob features John Denver in concert. Known for his songs that capture the simple beauty of the Colorado Rocky Mountain re- gion, Denver is a fairly diversi- fied performer (he even juggles) sending out some exciting but relatively unamplified sounds.
