Johncock, a 38-year-old cam- paigner who lives in nearby Fraklin, Ind., brooght his or- ange-colored Eagle-Offenhauser across the fiaish line 30 seconds ahead of Billy Vukovich as rain pelted the 2%-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The rain came on the 128th lap and race officials flagged the event to a halt five laps later. It was the shortest race in Indianapolis history. The 18-year racing veteran, never a big winner, covered the 332% miles in 2 hours, 5 min- utes and 27.66 seconds for an average speed of 159.014 miles per hour. When the purse of more than $1 million is di'ided, the 150 pound, 5-foot-7 winner will pick up in excess of $200,000. Third place in the unofficial standings went to 42-year-old Roger MCliskey of Tucson, Ariz.
