Pill Bradley's shot was off the mark and DeBusschere, who also led the Knicks with'15 rebounds, wstmuscled 7-2 Wilt Chamberlain for the carom, put the ball into the bucket and drew a foul on the towering Laker center. After Laker Bill Bridges scored under- neath, Earl Monroe upped the lead to fire points with two free throws. Jerry West, who sat ot most of the third quarter be- cause of hamstring problems in both legs, sliced the New York margin to. 99-96 with thirty sec- onds to play. The defending NBA champs pressed on the ensuing in-bounds play and West tied ttp Monroe, causing a jump ball. The Lakers controled the tip but Chamber- lain's shot from inside the lane was off and DeBusschere grab- bed the rebound. The 6-7 Knick forward completed the Knick scoring with pairs of free throws before and after a Chamberlain bucket. The Knicks played nearly per- feet basketball for most of the first half, led by DeBusschere's 22 first half points. New York led 29-16 at the quarter and increased that bulge to 47-26 with 4:35 left to go in the second period. Royals tonight on station WJR. i 'othungry Montreal, 8-7, MONTREAL (P) - Shifty Stan Mikita scored two goals and assisted on two others last night, leading the Chicago Black Hawks to a wild 8-7 victory over Mon- treal in the fifth game of their National Hockey League Stanley Cup championship series. Mikita, playing despite a badly gashed middle finger on his right hand suffered in the opening game, twice tipped in long shots by defenseman Pat Stapleton past Montreal goalie Ken Dryden. And twice, the helmetted Black Hawk centerman set up key goals for Chicago, _struggling to stave off elimination. The two teams combined for a record eight goals in the middle period-five of them by Chicago. Like two heavyweight boxers s t a n d i n g toe-to-toe they ex- changed goals - first one team and then the other scoring. Finally, the Black Hawks broke the pattern in the final 81/ min- utes of the period, scoring three times, Mikita assisting twice, and Jim Pappin notching two of the goals, Claude Larose also had a pair of goals for the Canadiens and both goalies - Dryden in Mon- treal's end and Tony Esposito in Chicago's net-looked like boxers staggering on the ropes when the barrage ended, Montreal's Mahovlich brothers, first Frank and then Pete, had the Canadiens' first period goals. In between, Dennis Hull and Mikita connected for the Black Hawks so the score after 20 min- utes was 2-2. Then the fireworks really began. Larose scored frots the right side of the ice in the opening minute of the middle period and after rookie Dave Kryskow tied it fo ithe Hawks again, Larose hit from the left side.
