The Michigan Daily-Wednesday, May 2, 1979-Page 27 PARK NOTCHES WINNER Bruins edge Canadiens, 2-1 BOSTON (AP)-Veteran defenseman Brad Park charged the length of the ice and scored with just over three minutes remaining in the third period last night, boosting the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 vic- tory over the Montreal Canadiens. Park's goal at 16:48 of the third period broke up a brilliant goal-tending duel between Boston's Gilles Gilbert and Montreal's Ken Dryden and kept alive the Bruins' Stanley Cup playoff hopes. With victories in the first two games in Montreal, the Canadiens lead the best-of-seven National Hockey -League semifinal series 2-1. The fourth game is scheduled here tomorrow night. PARK, PLAGUED by knee trouble much of the regular season, scored his first goal of the current playoffs with a snake-like maneuver after Larry Robinson had pulled Montreal into a 1-1 tie by converting a rebound at 13:23 of thefinale. Takinga passfrom Jean Ratelle deep in the Boston zone, Park started out slowly. He began picking up speed ap- proaching center ice as defenseman Mike Milbury and winger Don Marcotte joined him to assist him on the attack. Robinson was the only Montreal defen- seman back while both teams were shorthanded. For more sports, see pages 22-23. Using Milbury and Marcotte as decoys, Park speeded into theMontreal zone, went around Robinson as the Montreal defenseman dropped to his knees. Park then fired a 20-foot wrist shot, beating Dryden to his stick side, SCORES American League DetroitsChicago 2 KansasCity , Texasl Mieso 3, Troto2 National League Montreal7,LosAngeles3 San Francisc7, Philadelphia 0 Atlanta 5, Pittsburgh 2 Chicagos, Cincinnati I NiHL Playoffs Boston 2, Montreal i New York Rangers 3, New York Islanders i PiE JJEVJ This Week in Sports Greetings.
