of Twins' starter Darrell Jackson's
masterful pitching. Jackson is now 2-1.
He scattered five hits through seven
and two-thirds innings before Pete Red-
fern preserved the win.
Although Jackson had good control
throughout his stay on the mound the
Tigers were presented with plenty of
scoring opportunities.
In the first, seventh, and ninth in-
nings, Detroit placed runners in scoring
position and had at least two outs to -
spare. But in each instance, the bats
died and the runners never came home.

DENVER (AP) - Muhammed Ali rolled into "this one-horse town" as
he called it, amazed that "that football player" would ever step into the
same ring with him.
But, the 38-year-old World Boxing Association heavyweight champion
said yesterday, "I take every fight seriously."
And his eight-round exhibition match with the Denver Broncos' all-pro
defensive end Lyle Alzado, scheduled for Saturday in Mile High Stadium, is
no different, he said.
Ali, unhampered by his snug, dark, business suit, fired flashing left jabs
at astonished onlookers, kissed babies and attractive ladies and shook hands
with delighted children and adults.
"I'm a little overweight, but that don't mean nuthin'," he said, scowling
at reporters.
"It don't make no difference against a football layer. They gotta be
crazy to put him in the ring against me."
"I don't need no luck against that duck."
"He's not the great white hope - he's the great white dope."
"You don't mess around with a great fighter, and I've beaten the
greatest - Norton, Liston, Frazier . . ."
"Look at me. I'm beautiful. Not a mark on me," he said, lifting his chin

Ali composed a self-praising poem about his bout with the hulking 6-3,
250-pound former Golden Gloves champion who claims a ring record of 44

The poem proclaimed that Alzado would sail out of the ring so high that
there would be a considerable delay before the referee could begin counting.
The poem ended with a prediction the crowd attending the fight would not
