By The Associated Press BLOOMINGTON, Minn.-Roy White and Mickey Rivers stroked run-scoring singles in a three-run ninth inning that gave the New York Yankees a 4-1 vic- tory over the Minnesota Twins yester- day behind the four-hit pitching of Ron Guidry and Ron Davis. Rookie Darryl Jones started the ninth with a double off loser Jerry Koosman and one out later White dumped a single into center to snap a 1-1 tie and send Koosman to his fifth consecutive set- hack.' After a walk to Bucky Dent, Rivers singled to make it 3-1 and Mike Mar- shall relieved Koosman. Marshall un- corked a wild pitch, allowing Dent to score the final run. Guidry allowed all four Minnesota hits before leaving after the seventh in- ning with what the Yankees announced as a pulled muscle in the lower left side of his back. He was taken to a hospital to diagnose the extent of the injury. Mariners 5, Blue Jays I TORONTO - The Seattle Mariners scored three runs in the first inning and coasted to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday behind Glenn Ab- bott's six-hit pitching. Seattle jumped on Jesse Jefferson for three runs in the opening inning on con- secutive run-scoring singles by Dan Meyer, Joe Simpson and Larry Cox. Toronto got its run in the bottom of the first when a grounder by Roy Howell scored Alfredo Griffin. Seattle added a run in the eighth on a walk, an infield out, an error and a single by Mario Mendoza. The Mariners got their final run in the ninth on Meyer's seventh home run of the season. Phillies 4, Astros 0 PHILADELPHIA - Mike Schmidt's two-run homer in the fifth, Philadelphia's first hit of the game, triggered the Phillies to a 4-0 victory over the Houston Astros yesterday behind the six-hit pitching of Nino Espinosa. Houston right-hander Rick Williams pitched perfect ball through the first four innings. He walked Greg Luzinski to start the fifth, however, and Schmidt followed with his 18th homer of the season and it gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Houston's best scoring opportunity came in the fifth, when Art Howe and Alan Ashby singled with one out, but Williams struck out. Howe was the only Astro to reach second. The Phillies took advantage of a wild streak by Williams in the seventh to add two runs. Luzinski was hit with a, pitch and Schmidt and Bake McBride walked to load the bases. Bob Boone then rip- ped a two-run single. Other selections were former star defenseman Harry Howell of the New York Rangers, the Oakland-California Seals and the Los Angeles Kings and center Henri Richard of the Montreal Canadiens. Orr was chosen by the selection committee ahead of schedule. Nor- mally, the player must be retired three years before coming under con- sideration for nomination, but Orr, who attempted a comeback with the Chicago Black Hawks last season before succumbing to numerous knee injuries, was an exception. Trottier has Hart - MONTREAL - New York Islanders' center Bryan Trottier won two of seven individual trophies awarded by the National Hockey League in a vote of members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association announced yester- day. Trottier unseated Guy Lafleur of Montreal as the NHL's highest scorer this year and won the Art Ross Trophy for most points ina season. Trottier, who four years ago was the NHL's top rookie, also won the Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player. Another Islander, Dennis Potvin, won the James Norris Trophy as the league's best all-around defenseman for the third time in four years. Goaltenders Ken Dryden and Michel Larocque of Montreal shared the Vezina Trophy for compiling the best goals-against average - 2.55 - to mark the fourth consecutive season Canadiens goalies have won that award. Montreal left winger Bob Gainey again won the Frank Yelke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. And Bob MacMillan of the Atlanta Flames, assessing only 14 penalty minutes in 79 games, won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the league's most gentlemanly player.
