Page 2-Saturday, June 2, 1979-The Michigan Daily Corporation pleads guilty to Japanese payoffs; fined $647, 000 (Continued from Paget1) Kotchian might have been aware of the bribes, the department did not prosecute either of them. Lockheed, a Burbank, Calif., aerospace firm, received $250 million in federal loan guarantees in 1971 when it was in financial trouble. The company was penalized $40,000 in criminal fines and $601,000 in civil penalties yester- day. A criminal information filed by the government charged that Lockheed concealed payments by false entries in its records, backdating of agreements, obtaining phony receipts for payments and by using a Swiss bank account. THE GOVERNMENT said Lockheed paid approximately $1.8 million to Tanaka from August 1973 through February 1974, when Tanaka was prime minister, to arrange Japanese contracts to sell 21 of Lockheed's wide- bodied L-1011 jets to the Japanese All- Nippon passenger airlines. Tanaka, who was arrested in July 1976, is now being tried in Japan on charges of taking bribes from Lockheed. His trial began more than two years ago. The government said Lockheed listed the payoffs that allegedly went to Church IWorship Services CAMPUS CHAPEL (One Block North of S. University and Forest) 1236 Washtenaw Ct. Rev. Carter to lift controls from oil, despite critics 'pleas (Continued from Page 1) The president's decontrol plan will tske effect gradually, with domestic oil prices eventually rising to meet world prices by Oct. 1, 1981. The Energy Department says decontrol will result in price increases for gasoline of about five to seven cents a gallon. MARK GREEN, an associate of con- sumer advocate Ralph Nader, and Kathleen O'Reilly of the Consumer Federation of America, said critics of the president's plan confronted him with their opposition. "Consumer groups were unanimous before and during the meeting in op- posing decontrol," Green said. White House Press Secretary Jody Powell quoted Carter as telling his critics that he was "prepared to accept their opposition." The spokesman also said Carter urged his critics to support his "windfall profits" tax and conser- vation measures. POWELL ALSO said Carter is not considering appointment of a new energy adviser, a suggestion raised at a meeting Thursday with oil industry of- ficials. Green said that in repeating his refusal to seek continued price controls on oil, Carter reported that Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd (D- W.Va.) had promised to lead a filibuster on the Senate floor if such a plan were brought up. Meanwhile, a White House proposal for a weekend meeting with top Democrats in Congress to discuss energy and inflation received a cool reception"from several congressional leaders, sources said. INSTEAD, CARTER will entertain several members of Congress and their wives at his Camp David, Md., retreat for part of the weekend, but the White House is billing the event as a social oc- casion The president drew sharp criticism from O'Reilly, who said Carter's position on decontrol was the "most in- flationary, anti-consumer decision made in the White House in this cen- tury." Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 Surely there is a lot of raging, rioting, rape, crime, lawlessness and anarchy all over the world, in your com- munity and mine, here, there, yonder and all around. We need to think! The heathen are those "who do not believe in The God of The Bible." In the Second Psalm, God names them as "people who imagine a vain thing, kings and rulers striving to "Break the Bands and cast away the Cords" of His Moral Law, His Ten Commandments! THE FIRST OF THESE TEN IS: "THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME." EXODUS 20:3. The "ME" is The Almighty and EverlastingGod, Creatoroft The Heavens and Earth, He Who hath "measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and meted out the earth with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth ina measure, and weighted the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance-Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance.... "The great "I AM" with whom Jesus Christ identified Himself in the 8th chapter of John: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I Am'." Would any dare rage against Him? Consider the matter. "Thou shalt have no other gods before ME.""Other gods!" There are other gods the creation of men and devils: made by the hands, minds, and imaginations of men inspired by the devill Consider two of them. Call them "other god" #1, and "other god" #2. #1 created man in the image of some very low form of life, maybe jelly-fish or tadpole, and placed him in a "garden of Eden" of the slime, scum, mud, muck and mire of a swamp! There he grew, developed, and evolved up, up, and up. Up and up came #1's creature, got to be a frog, and later a monkey, baboon, etc., on and on. 'There is "one school of thought" which thinks this creature when it got tobe an "ass" its development was arrested and stopped, and itstayed put. They may have something there in view of Jeremiah 2:24 and Hosea &9. "Other god #2 is probably best understood and seen by pronouncements of his seers and prophets. #2 seeks to dethrone"The God of The Bible" byattackingHischaracterd Because of His terrible judgments-(and indeed they are terrible, the Apostle Paul said: "Knowing the terror of The Lord, we persuade men")-upon wicked and vile individuals, cities, nations, and the world in the days of Noah; one of #2 god's prophets said He is Hitler-like; another of his seers classed Him as a "dirty bully," and still another of these prophets told us people who believe in and trust The God of The Bible: "Your God is my devil!" By the way, all three of these prophets have held very high positions in Protestant Denominations, and within the past years all have visited our community and spoken in some of our greatest institutions. "O GOD, THE HEATHEN ARE COME INTO THINE INHERITANCE, THY HOLY TEMPLE HAVE THEY DEFILED." THIS SCRIPTIRE IN PSALM 79:1 IS AGAIN BEING FULFILLED! "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Pslam 11:3. They can do their duty: "Trust in The Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understan- ding." P. O.
