The Wolverines havel gone 6-6 in the two month stretch, while Notre Dame has tacked on two ties (the only ones in conference action so far this year) to their 4-4 mark.I One of those ties came last Saturday night in South Bend, as the Fighting Irish battled to7 a 4-4 stalemate with the sec- ond place Minnesota Gophers. Though that may seem like; a good effort, first year assist- ant coach Ric Schafer felt that the team was not playing as well as they are able. "We made a lot of basic mistakes. If we had played as well as we can, we would have won." Schafer, who played hockey" for Notre Dame and captainedE the team his senior year, has' been forced to assume extra duties in light of an illness to the wife of head coach Charles "Leftv" Smith. Despite this uncertainty, Notre Dame will bring a big and talented contingent of hockey players to town. They have been led all season by a first line that has already ac- counted for 91 points. Centering the line will be di-, minuitive Brian Walsh, who' has seven goals and twenty-five assists in the 1975-76 camnaign.
