Though the orange and black of Gary had lots of spirit and physical power, the artful Wol- verines downed them with speed, grace, and finesse. In the first half the slate gray sky looked even grayer for Michigan as Gary took a 6-3 lead and seemed to be intimidating the smaller Blue. Michigan scored first with a penalty kick (3 ptsj) by Jay, Gore. Within three minutes, how-' ever, one of the Indiana play- ers broke from the pack, twist- ing and faking like Red Grange, and was able to score a try. This weekend the Michigan ruggers are competing in the Big Ten tournament at Purdue. Many team members feel they have a good chance of placing in the top three. "This is the best team we've had in four or five years," stated Jay Gore. "We really hope to do well." Gore also encourages any- one who wants to come out for the club to call 665-8245. There are no cuts from the team and everyone gets to play. "Size isn't really a big factor," he says. "I'm only five foot nine and 150 pounds. We're a club sport and our only purpose is to have a good time." Standings American League East w L Pet.
