LIBERTY 994-5350 From Wire Service Reports EAST LANSING - Acting one week in advance of a self- imposed deadline, Michigan State University Monday hired Darryl Rogers of San Jose State as its new football coach and named Jud Heathcote of Mon- tana to lead the basketball pro- gram. The new coaches, both vet- erans in their fields, were recommended by MSU's new athletic director Joseph Kearney and unofficially confirmed by the college's Board of Trustees in a telephone poll. Rogers, 40, a 14-year veteran of football coaching, will re- place former coach Denny Stolz, who resigned under pressure in the wake of an NCAA investigation into Michi- gan State's football program. Heathcote, 48, will replace Gus Ganakas, whose one-year contract was not renewed last month. fills *L4 $()r Mandav-Saturdav 8-8 Sunday 0-8 769-2288 1313 So. University _ More Exciting Than Ever!
