By AP and Reuter
SAN FRANCISCO-The seat-
ing of a jury in the trial of
Patricia Hearst moved ahead
slowly yesterday, with some ob-
servers predicting the panel
would not be finally seated until
the middle of next week.
Two potential jurors were se-
lected and two dismissed in two
hours of secret questioning yes-
terday morning. Altogether six
people have been tentatively ac-
cepted during interrogation in a
closed courtroom by Federal
Judge Oliver Carter.
THE JUDGE has to form a
final panel of 36 to be screened
and challenged in open court
before a jury is selected.
The 21 - year - old newspaper
heiress, who faces a possible 35-
year jail sentence if convicted
of armed bank robbery, was
hidden to press and public, but
attorneys said she was present
at yesterday's session.
"Patty is very attentive to the
proceedings," said Albert John-
son, one of the defense lawyers.
THE DEFENDANT'S father,
San Francisco Examiner Presi-
dent Randolph Hearst, was the
only family member at the pro-
ceeding, in contrast to Wednes-
day's session when his wife
Catherine and another daughter,
Vicki, attended.
Chief defense attorney F. Lee
Bailey, arriving for the second
day of jury selection, was angry
about newspaper accounts of
comments by potential jurors
who were' excused from the
panel Wednesday.
"They*can't speak to you on
the way out," Bailey told a re-
porter. "They probably will be
held in contempt if they do it
again and the newsmen too."
