The victory gave defending Super Bowl champ Pittsburgh undisputed possession of first place in the tough AFC Central division. RETAIN DIVISION LEAD Steelers dump Oilers TOUR OFFICE OPEN: By The Associated Press HOUSTON-Terry Bradshaw's aerial artistry, thunderous run- ning by Franco Harris and Pitts-f burgh's Steel Curtain defense carried the Steelers to an easy 32-9 National Football League victory over the Houston Oilers last night. Bradshaw completed 13 of 16 passes for 168 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown strike to Lynn Swann, while Harris rum- bled for 149 yards on 21 carries and touchdown runs of four and 13 yards. The touchdown pass and Har- ris' first scoring run came in a 1:28 span late in the second period and all but knocked Houston out of the nationally televised game. THE VICTORY gave the Steel- ers a 9-1 record and a one-game lead over Cincinnati in the American Conference's Central Division. The Oilers, losing for the second time in three weeks to Pittsburgh, fell to 7-3, two games back. Frenchy Fuqua added a 13- yard touchdown run and Roy Gerela had a 30-yard field goal for Pittsburgh. But it was the Steelers' de- fense, as much as their offense, that paved the way to victory. It sacked Oiler quarterback Dan Pastorini four times and limited him to 17 completions in 32 pass- ing attempts for 172 yards. By SCOTT LEWIS Facing tough competition in their first meet of the season,: Michigan's gymnastics team managed to take a fourth place' in last weekend's Windy City Invitational. Twelve teams competed in the meet, in which no individ- ual honors were given out ex- cept for all-around. In team points, Indiana State topped all entrants, Iowa State placed sec.. ond, and Southern Illinois fin- ished in third place. MICHIGAN'S OUTSTANDING, performer was Pierre Leclerct who took third place in the all-: around competition. Leclerc's performance helped the team overcome the absence of Harley Danner, last year's Big Ten all - around champ, who will be out of action until January. Danner suffered a' knpe injurv earlier this fall. "We definitely missed his presence in the all-around," said! Coach Newt Loken. "We'll be. clad to get him bark fn thi ed. "We did a super job on com- pulsories, but we slipped a bit! on optionals." Indiana State's Kurt Thomasj and Doug Griffith took the first two places, respectively, in the all-around. Other strong finishers for Michigan were Richard Bigras in the all-around, and Bob Creek on the high bar. Two freshmen - Nigel Roth- well on floor exercises, vault- ing, and parallel bars, and John Corritorre on parallel bars - also came through with respec- table performances. er This Week in SportS THURSDAY NCAA FOOTBALL - Georgia at Georgia Tech, 9 p.m., channel 7 FRIDAY NCAA FOOTBALL-Texas at Texas A&M, 2:30 p.m., channel 7 NCAA FOOTBALL-UCLA at USC, Optional accommodations as follows: Double accommodations (2) Single accommodations (1) $15.
