His staff was studying the law, however, to see if the threats were illegal. TWO prosecutors of Manson, the convicted murderer -of ac- tress Sharon Tate and six oth- ers, were divided in their opin- ions of how seriously to take the threats, by the roommate of Lyn- ette "Squeaky" Fromrne, who was arraigned yesterday on charges of trying to assassinate the President. A spokesman for state Atty. Gen. Evelle Younger said, "Of course he's concerned. Any time someone makes that kind of statement . . . and some of these people have done horrible things." He. said Younger's staff had reached a preliminary conclu- sion that the issuing of the list alone did not constitute a crime, said the spokesman. GOOD SAID the executives on the list had been singled out for assassination by what she called an "International People's Court of Retribution." There was no independent verification of what that signifies. Many of those named are oil industry men, utilities adminis- trators accused of wanting to overrun the country with nu- clear power plants, and logging magnates. Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi called the statement "more than just rhetoric" and THERE WILL BE A PHI ETA SIGMA PICNIC SATURDAY at DELHI PARK Members - Meet, at Prof. Hornbeck's house, 1717 S. "I THINK those on the list should be very concerned," he said, because Good is a "hard- core member" of the Manson family. But another prosecutor in the case, Stephen Kay, has labeled Fromme's gun-wielding of last. week as a publicity move, and played down the seriousness of the death list. "I don't think it's real seri- ous," he added. "But of course with the Manson family you can never tell. They're" unpredict- able." "I'M AMAZED that a name like mine would be on such a list," said Louis Gandsey of Rolling Hills, Calif., an official of Atlantic Richfield Co. Herbert Gray, regional vice president of the Westinghouse Corp. in Atlanta, said, "Most of my appearances have been in places where there is accep- tance of power plants. It's kooky and very bizarre. I wonder if taking note of them only accel- erates this kind of thing." "I don't know why they don't lock these people up," was the reaction of E.S. McCawley, a spokesman for Remington Arms Co. executive Philip Burdett. In Midland, Mich. FBI agents continued their investigation into a threatening telephone call reportedly made by a member of the Manson family to a top executive of Dow Chemical Co. The caller on Sept. 4 report- edly criticized Dow for produc- ing napalm during the Vietnam- ese war and for polluting the air with the substance.# (continued from Page 1) dren who want to clean up this earth, the redwood trees," she began. The import- ant part is the redwood trees." "The gun is pointed, your honor," she said firmly as the. judge tried to silence her. "The, gun is pointed. Whether it goes off is up to you." The judge then ordered her removed from court. LEAVING quietly in the es- cort of a marshal who grasped' her arm, Fromme said cheer- fully: "I hope I wasn't rude." The judge assured her she wasn't, and he said he would do everything he could to have her tried in 60 to 90 days. Fromme is the first person to be tried on the charge of at- tempted murder of the Presi- dent, a charge enacted after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1973.
