It appears as if the Hurons were never in- formed of the contest. A communications mix - up between the team and Michigan's club sports de- partment seems to be the problem. Bob Zach, captain of the team, stated that it was his understanding that the I.M. department was to have contacted E.M.U. Dr. John Reznik, official in the club sports program responded that he was un- aware of any request by the team to call E.M.U., but if there was a mis- take he said, it won't hap- pen again. Hicks, shown here returning a Stanford punt, was named Big Ten defensive Player of the Week by the Associated Press for his outstanding game against the Cardinals. Hicks intercepted one pass, broke up three others, saved a touchdown, forc- ed a fumble and made five soo tackles. He was named Michigan's Defensive Champion of the week. The junior from New Jersey siffered the hand injury in the opener against Wisconsin, but surgery was postponed until after the Stanford contest. With Hicks out of the lineup, Jim Pickens will move to safety, with Derek Howard taking Picken's halfback spot. Jerry Zuver will start at wolfman. Pittsburgh moved up a notch to third place on the strength of a 42-14 triumph over Georgia Tech. The Pan- thers drew four first place votes and 304 points. UCLA, with a single first place vote, dropped one rung to fourth place with 295 votes, while Oklahoma remained fifth with 262. Nebraska, with the only other first place vote from the 42 coaches, moved up two spaces to sixth. Illinois, by virtue of its 31-6 upset of Missouri, became the third Big Ten team in the top 20, breaking in at 14. Missouri, meanwhile, dropped completely out of the poll after being nam- ed sixth last week. The ratings were expected to show Michigan ahead of Ohio State and rated first in the nation after the Wolverines' jimpressive 51-0 romp over Stanford but Schembechler downplayed the poll's import- anice. "I'm telling them they're not that good," Schembechler said. "But I don't tell them there's anyone better, either.
