Thursday, March 24, 1977 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Page Seven MEET BU IN SEMIS TONIGHT: Blue icers seek eighth NC By BOB MILLER The season's over and now the fun begins. To- night, 7:30 at Olympia, the 30th NCAA Hockey Tournament gets underway with a feature game between Michigan (27-16-0) and Boston (21-10-1). The Terriers won the East Coast Athletic Con- ference (ECAC) to earn their berth in the tour- ney. It will mark the 12th time BU has made an appearance in the annual post-season event. ONLY MICHIGAN (13) has taken to the ice more often. The Wolverines won the first tour- nament in 1948 and are after their eighth team title, also a record. BU has two championship banners to its credit, back-to-back in 1970-71 and 71-72. The Terriers are the last eastern team to win the NCAA hockey crown. BU plays an eastern style game, a lot of skating, not a heck of a lot of hitting. The Ter- rier's potent offense averages 5.9 goals a game through 32 games. THE TERRIERS have also made 262 trips to the penalty box for a total of 559 minutes. Only one player, Jack O'Callahan, has more than 50 minutes in penalties. Michigan's high powered scoring machine av- erages 5.8 goals per game through 43 games, but the big difference is in penalties. The whistl-e has blown on the Wolverines 325 times for a whopping 705 minutes spent in the box. Since both teams are fairly equal in the Ti .l : .Ja.4 fr. .t" .{t . :. . r.. ...:.
