"We are questioning him in connec- tion with the strangulation murders," said officer Carlos Figueroa, a spokes- man for the task force. Henderson said Merrett was arrested in connection with a Nov. 12 robbery reported by a woman who was ques- tioned three days later in the death of 20-year-old Yolanda Washington. THE WOMAN, whose name was not released, reported being raped during the robbery, police said. Washington's body was found Oct. 18 dumped near the Ventura Freeway in Griffith Park. Nine other bodies, all of them either nude or semi-clothed, have been found similarly dumped. Some of the victims were raped; their clothing has not been recovered. Police said they were checking the black and gray Cadillac driven by Merrett, a clothing salesman, for f in- gerprints. The car contained women's clothing at the time of the arrest, said Figueroa. The latest strangling victim, 18-year- old Lauren Rae Wagner, was reported to have been driven off in a black and white or gray car, police said.
