Security was fairly heavy at the ceremony to formally inaugurate Rhodes, who was the acting President at Cornell over the summer. The Daily Sun reported that about 25 Safety Division officers watched students en- ter the hall and stood guard outside. Rhodes ONE REASON for the security was that James Perkins, a former Cornell President, joined the Ivy League presidents and trustees invited to the event. Perkins was forced to resign in 1969 after he granted campus immunity for students who had taken over carm- pus building brandishing machine guns.
