LIB' TY Eiberi f presiden By RICHARD BERKE Freshperson Sally Eibert, who won the presidency of the University Housing Council (UHC) in last week's student government elections, will have to give up the seat because of her in- volvement in the Bursley marijuana buying incident. Eibert is one of the six Bursley Board of Governors members who had their leases terminated last week by the Housing Office for approving the pur- chase of three-quarters of a pound of marijuana for use at a Bursley party March 31. UHC rules stipulate that its members must live in University housing. JUNIOR MIKE SYNK, outgoing UHC president, said freshperson Carrie Crandall, who was elected UHC vice- president on a ticket with Eibert, will probably assume the presidency. UHC, composed of representatives from campus dormitories, works with the Housing Office to make housing policy recommendations. University Acting Housing Director Robert Hughes decided to terminate the six leases on the basis of a recom- mendation by Bursley Building Direc- tor Tod Hanson. The University lease the students are bound by contains a clause stating that the purchase of marijuana is grounds for lease ter- mination, according to Hughes. "THE HOUSING Office is really trying to make an example of people," said Synk. "They (Board members) willingly admitted they did it and I don't think the Housing Office did the right thing. No one really complained about it (the marijuana) and they've never made an attempt to enforce. "I think there's a problem," Synk ad- ded, "but I don't know who's at fault." Eibert declined to comment on the situation and Crandall could not be reached yesterday. AS HAS BEEN in past years, turnout was low in the UHC part of the election.
