presentation of the creative writing
awards for drama, essay, fiction and
poetry in the Hopwood competition. The
monetary awards are given from the
fund left to the University by the
playwright Hopwood.

Minor drama awards of $40 went to
juniors David Victor and Eric Zorn.
The major drama awards of $750 each
went to seniors Art Becker and Alisa
Solomon.
Seniors William Marcous and Suzan-
nes Sahakian both received major $750
prizes in the essay contest with $400
minor awards going to seniors Donald
Karobkin and Lauren Gibson.
THE MAJOR ESSAY award of $1,000
was awarded to graduate student Craig
Watson with the $800 prize going to
senior Saire Wiltse De Quincy. Major
fiction novel awards of $750 went to
seniors Elaine Fletcher and Rosemary
Matson.
Four minor fiction awards were
given. $500 was awarded to senior
Susan Barry, $400 to sophomore An-
drew Kurtzman and $300 to juniors Lori
Lippitz and Frank James.
Major fiction awards in the short
story category were all $700 each. They
went to Brenda Flannagin, a education
school graduate, senior John Holmes,
senior David Spink an' Flint-campus
senior Precina Denise Rhodes-Tolon.
Minor poetry awards of $300 each
went to Karla Kafner and Andrew Kur-
tzman. $500 awards were received by
Mathew Hans Koplar and Barbara4
Schroeder received $300 prizes.
All four major poetry awards were
given to graduate students. $600 awards
went to Robert Hejna, Charlotte Ann
Melin and Craig Watson. Lisa Ann
Leafstrand won the $800 prize.

The aMaizin' Blues is a student singing/dancing ensemble performing popular music, show
tunes, vocal jazz standards and traditional Michigan favorites. Shows are fully choreo-
graphed and have been staged in Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus,
Chicago, as well as all over Michigan. In addition, the group went to the 1978 Rose Bawl
where they performed at Disneyland and the Hollywood Palladium.
