The Wolverines have been en- joying a .few days off since 'open- ing the campaign with four games in eight days but they swing back into action Saturday against U-D in the Motor City. While other Big Ten powers have been warming up for conference play with Chicago State, St. Jo- seph's (Indiana), Western Illinois, Wisconsin - Milwaukee and De Pauw; Michigan has faced four schools with strong basketball tra- ditions and won three of the con- tests. At the outset of the season, Coach Johnny Orr warned, "Ev- ery team on our schedule is tough - they're no breathers". Orr's admonition seems to be ac- curate as the upcoming oppon- ents on Michigan.'s, schedule will be poised. for bttle with the talented and highly publicized Wolverines. Jim Harding's club at Detroit has won its first three games in- cliding an upset of Illinois of the Big Ten last weekend. The Titans lost Frank Russell (Campy's bro- Sther) to the NBA Chicago Bulls but Detroit still has size and sueed. k, Tom Marsh is the ton return- ing letterman at U-D and is the best guard on the club. The key man for the Titans, however, is 7-0 Gerald Smith who has shown pro- mise at times but lacked consis- tency in the pivot. Smith will have to battle Ken Brady underneath for Detroit to pull an upset and re- main unbeaten.
