Ready and waiting
Despite reports that 'a cease-fire is imminent, three South Vietna-
mese militiamen rest in the shade in the Mekong Delta province
of Long Xuyen. The province is considered the quietest in South
Vietnam due to its heavy concentration of staunchly anti-communist
Buddhists.
'U' SURVEY:

The early Nixon supporter is a
special breed - more contented
and less socially alienated than the
average American, according to a
survey completed by Social Work
Prof. Donald Warren.
He is more satisfied with his
job, community and family serv-
ices than his fellow citizens; the'
poor, racial minorities and spe-
cial privileges of the rich pose no
unusual threat to him, and he is
not overly concerned with "the de-
clining quality of life."
Warren took a nationwide sur-
vey of 1,690 of white Americans
before the 1972 presidential pri-
maries were held. At that time 30
percent favored Nixon, Muskie 14
per cent, Wallace ten percent and
McGovern four percent.
Early McGovern and Wallace
supporters expressed more than
average concern that the rich get
too much help from the govern-
ment.
Warren also found that both
groups agreed that it was "very
true" that goverment lie about
what is happening in Vietnam,
while less than 22 per cent of
the Nixon supporters believed
this.
The only topic on which Nixon
supporters agreed with the nation
as a whole was that blacks and
the organized poor had undue pri-
vileges and power.
