In a speech "Sex in the Market- place" delivered yesterday in the Business Administration Bldg., she claimed that women themselves contribute to their small represen- tation in professions. The heavy emphasis that women place on bringing up their children keeps them from pursuing execu- tive careers, she said. S"Industries must realize our ca- pacities and talents," she said, "but freedom of access to executive po- sitions is not the whole answer." She said companies have a prob- lem finding women who will accept the demands of these jobs. "The high positions," she stated, "often require frequent geographic movement. It is still true that the wife has little option when it comes to moving children." She reasoned that this factor pro- duces a high number of working women, but few who are active in the professions. She saw a future increase in women interested in executive posi- tions. "Zero population growth may free women for careers," she said. "Young women think they should have only two, one, or no children." She speculated a rise in the num- ber of women as heads of families, due to increase in divorces and separations. "Most w o m e n will marry, though," she said. "We shouldn't blind ourselves to the fact that the two-career family is developing; that in which both hubsand and wife work professionally. In time, women's careers could take pre- cedence over her husband's job, but not now," Kreps is the first woman mem- ber on the board of the New York Stock Exchange. Now AP Photo I Pat the ribbon cutter Pat Nixon cuts the ribbon at the opening ceremonies of the Michigan Cancer Foundation's new $5 million research center in Detroit yesterday. After the ribbon cutting, Mrs. Nixon hugged Mrs. Robert Griffin and said she thought, billboards with likenesses of Mrs. Griffin's husband "look great."
